DST VIEW: Back the Kingsford Stadium Proposal

After a consultation that considered reaction to our engagement with fans – including an online poll which showed 75% of supporters are in favour of the move – we believe that the proposal offers a viable answer to the club’s long-standing desire to build a modern stadium and training facilities.

Gordon Duncan, DST, stated: “The vast majority of the Aberdeen supporters [with whom we have been in contact] are in favour of the proposals put forward by the club. The location is seen as far more favourable than previous sites identified and is one the fans and the club seem to agree on, agreement which has been elusive in the past. This is a fantastic opportunity to breath new life into the club – one of the city’s key community assets – and take it to a new level.”

However, we believe that the concerns of those opposed to the relocation, including the newly-formed Say No To Kingsford Stadium (SNTKS) residents group and sceptical Aberdeen FC supporters, must be acknowledged and respected.

Gordon continued: “Leaving Pittodrie, our home for over a century, will undoubtedly be a wrench for many supporters. However, it’s widely recognised that the club need a modern facility to allow them to grow further both on and off the park. DST believe the plans devised for a community sports campus, football academy and stadium on the land at Kingsford are ones that the majority of supporters agree to be for the greater good of both the club and the city.

“It’s important that sceptics keep an open mind and trust that the club, and representatives like us will listen to their concerns and do their utmost to create a facility that they will be proud of. Upon the announcement of the public consultation dates, DST look forward to continuing their positive engagement with the club and fellow supporters on this matter.”

We exist to offer supporters of Aberdeen FC a voice that is both recognised and respected. In early August we will be releasing a concise survey relating to these stadium plans in order to gather more primary research from those that matter most, the supporters. These views will be collated and formally presented to the club.
