Red Army Named Country’s Best Away Fans

Scottish football fans have voted Aberdeen as the best travelling support for the second consecutive year.

In a poll carried out by the Scottish Football Supporters Association’s (SFSA), that saw nearly 2,000 votes cast, the Red Army beat Hearts and Morton, who finished second and third respectively.

The Scottish Football Supporters Association is a not-for-profit, members’ body open to everyone, whether they are individuals, supporters groups or affiliates. It currently has over 70,000 members. This is its second Scottish Fan Awards poll.

Kevin Mackenzie, chairman of DST, said: “The Dons fans never cease to amaze with the effort they put in to follow the team around the country. Despite the geographical disadvantage and subsequent transport difficulties they turn out in good numbers and good voice and thoroughly deserve this award.”

Simon Barrow, chair of the Scottish Football Supporters Association, said: “It’s really important that fans now have the opportunity every year to vote independently for those who they think deserve recognition in Scottish football – players, supporters and others. We need more fan engagement at every level to make this truly ‘the people’s game’ once more.”
